4 PRIMARY RULES OF FIREARM SAFETY

At SUPS, you are expected to consistently execute the four essential rules of firearms safety at all times:

  • Always keep firearms pointed in a safe direction
  • Treat all guns as if they are loaded
  • Keep your finger off the trigger until you are ready to fire
  • Always be sure of your target and what’s beyond it

COMPETITION-SPECIFIC RULES

In addition to the 4 primary rules of firearms safety, several additional rules apply to competitive shooting:

  • Do not handle or unholster your firearm unless you are
    1 – under supervision of a range officer OR
    2 – at a designated safe area on the range.
  • Do not handle ammunition or loaded magazines in the designated safe area.
  • Keep your finger outside of the trigger guard while loading, unloading, clearing malfunctions, or moving.
  • Always keep your muzzle within 90 degrees from the median intercept of the backstop
    (obeying the “180 rule”).

OTHER RANGE RULES

The following items are prohibited on the range:

  • Armor-piercing, incendiary, steel core, or bi-metal ammo
  • Explosives, including tannerite
